Justice Odonkor - Ghana Student Currently studying - Diploma in Information Systems & Computing Student Blog Hi there. I’m Justice Martey Odonkor and I’m studying for the Diploma of Information Systems and Computing at LIBT, leading to the 2nd year of the BSc (Hons) Computer Science at Brunel University. I come from a family which is made up of Ghanaians and Germans with a keen interest in hospitality and sports. I’m very positive about life and have an enthusiastic nature. My hobbies are writing poems, singing, cracking jokes, making friends and playing football. I have observed and have come to a conclusion that LIBT is a school I could describe as ‘only a mile away from home’. LIBT focuses on student hospitality and higher education standards - they create an atmosphere which enables the multinational student body to share experiences and contribute their quota with innovational and creative ideas. I am going to write a weekly blog, available and updated here on the LIBT site. In my upcoming blog entries I will share with you observations about my social, cultural, educational, entertainment and religious activities of the week. You can use this blog to ask me questions about me and about student life on campus. I look forward to receiving your questions… All the best,
Week 2 16-03-2007 Anniversary My week begun on a slight bad note with symptoms of the flu which to me was uncharacteristic. I made use of the free medical service provided on campus by visiting the doctor on duty. After several examinations he said,’ there is nothing wrong with you, you’re fully fit.’ I was extremely happy as I visited the pharmacy shop to procure flu prescription given to me. It would have been a strange news to hear from the doctor that I was sick, since I have concluded by my believe system that sickness is a major stranger to me. And the good news is that my belief system together with hygienic life works-for over 8-10 years I don’t remember the last time I fell sick. This week has been fairly loaded with less assignment compared to previous March has been dense, packed with the activities and events which often come once in many months. . I visited a job fair held on campus by Brunel Job Shop for work. It was an exciting time as most student like I had the chance of undergoing interviews. Around this time last year I also was spending time in Ghana’s 49th independence anniversary with great fun.Wednesday was Ghana’s 50th birthday. It a surprise to see Ghana as the first Black Country to gain independence and one of the only countries in Africa that had never experience war, and some substantial economic growth compared with a nation like Malaysia. Most indigenous county men may visit the country for the celebration .The closest I can get to home is by eating Ghanaian food. Thanks to the organisers of a show on campus which aims to raise funds for charity works in orphanage homes in both Ghana and Jamaica. The occasion was very colourful with activities such as: food buzzard, fashion and modelling show, beauty pageant and great Ghanaian music’s which made me homesick especially my dancing competition with friends back home’s. I was not left out as I display my poetic talent and shared some joke to the entertainment of all the audience. I wrote a poem two days prior to the occasion, I called the poem ‘May you’. It revolves wishing all the unfortunate children and all unhappy people goodwill. This is some of the words in my poem. May your life always be filled with of laughter and music. May every path you choose be that which is rewarding, pure and lovely. May you discover that you are uniquely fashion and beautiful. May you discover that you are not an accident in this world but a gift- packaged of success to humanity yet to be unwrapped. May you be surrounded with supportive and encouraging people who will always put smiles on you face and uphold you when you fall. May your titanic ship have life boats to rescue you to the land of hope and fulfilment and success. May your pass mistakes not press you down but become a medium like travel-pass to launch you into your destine destination. May your mistakes become ‘a must-take’ platform for achievement and purpose. May your setback become a setup for a comeback of elevation and triumph in life. A lot of people were encouraged by the poem. After the show I took picture with the Mr Ghana and Miss Ghana in their local kentia clothing. (Click here or scroll down to have a look) On Friday, I visited LIBT staff room which l spent quality time chatting. I shared some jokes and had great fun but it could not erase the reality of the departure of my great friend Mr Sherry, a man full of vision and purpose, a lover of football and supporter of Manchester fan. Since I am a Chelsea fun, I will miss the time we chat about the premiership and other leagues. I didn’t realise the gravity of his departure until I came home only to realise how true it was. I know Mr Adeel, Sian and other will still be around with their electrifying friendly smiles and warm reception. My fingers are crossed and I am ready to answer your questions. I will tell your how my week was ended with a dog bark in my upcoming blogs. Remember your smile is a precious medicine for a disturbed person you may you. So keep smilling like the smile on the summer sun. Your friend, Justice *Pictures coming soon!
